Foreign Trade Department Advisory Board Meeting Held with the Participation of Sector Representatives
06.12.2022
An online Department Advisory Board Meeting was held within the scope of discussing the expectations of external stakeholders from the graduates and graduating students of Denizli Vocational School of Social Sciences (DSBMYO) Foreign Trade Program and increasing the quality of education and training.
During the meeting, issues such as the importance of students gaining experience during internship periods during their education, the need for students to closely follow the developments in the business world, the need for educators to closely follow the expectations of the sector and update their curriculum content accordingly, and the need for students to know foreign languages, especially English, were discussed.
Dayıoğlu: "If we look at the expectations of the business world, they expect our young people to be more experienced and ready."
DENIB Secretary General and Sector Representative Uğur Dayıoğlu stated the following in his speech: "Our university, Denizli Exporters' Association, Exporters' Enterprises and you, our esteemed professors; although we are representatives of separate institutions, we are all parts of a whole. Denizli is a foreign trade city. Everyone contributes within the framework of their authority, influence and responsibilities. Your university has a very important share in this regard. In this context, the existence of your relevant departments is also extremely important. If we look at the expectations of the business world, they expect our young people to be more experienced and ready. Of course, this brings us back to the point of 'university-business cooperation'. For this reason, it is necessary to establish a strong bridge of this relationship. We are always ready to exchange views with you on this issue. Internship is an issue that not only Pamukkale University, but also the lower levels of universities in our province, such as vocational high schools, sometimes have difficulty in implementing. Our workplaces sometimes have different opinions about internship. The meeting we are having now is an important meeting and should be a start on this issue. I will put this issue on the agenda of our first board of directors and convey it to our president. We can come together and evaluate what we can do again. We know that especially our board members have a good command of the sector. Although it is obvious that internship is a problem, our students at the level of vocational high schools and vocational colleges are interns for you and staff for our workplaces. For this reason, the process is evaluated and analyzed in detail. Therefore, I think it would be useful to bring you together again with our board members or our President as soon as possible to discuss the issue in detail. What is the need outside the university? You have entered into the search and analysis of the answer to this, which is very valuable. Foreign language is very important for those who want to progress in exports, this is a sector where they have to take a step further than the previous one every day. For example, your graduates should not have any problems with the language when they see the invoice, offer, bill of lading in a foreign language that they will encounter at least on their first day of work. Especially when a student graduating from a foreign trade program enters the business world, he/she must have overcome the English language at a certain level. If the student is in search of self-improvement, his/her first priority should be to improve his/her foreign language."
