Child Abuse Awareness Training at PAU Faculty of Medicine

The event was planned by the Pamukkale University (PAU) Medical Students' Union Human Rights Commission and organized with the participation of 65 volunteer students from among Pamukkale University Faculty of Medicine Term 1-2-3 students.

The workshop titled "Child Abuse Awareness Training" was completed and the participation certificates of the students were given to them at a ceremony attended by Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Osman İsmail Özdel.
Providing information about the workshop, Prof. Dr. Kemalettin Acar, Head of the Department of Forensic Medicine at PAU Faculty of Medicine, stated the following: "The issue of child abuse and neglect is an extremely important issue that many professional groups such as physicians and health professionals, lawyers, law enforcement, social service workers and local administrators should be informed about. Individuals in these professions have high-level responsibilities in the detection, documentation and prevention of child abuse and neglect, which is recognized as a public health problem today. Being aware that everyone should fulfill their duties in raising our children, who are the guarantee of our future, by protecting and keeping them away from all kinds of abuse and turning them into healthy adults, medical faculty students, who are the physicians of the future, have aspired to this training and requested the preparation of the program from their teachers."

In the workshop, which was prepared as a structured training consisting of six lectures on basic issues related to Child Abuse and Neglect, Prof. Dr. Kemalettin Acar, Prof. Dr. Ayşe Kurtuluş Dereli, faculty members of the Department of Forensic Medicine, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bürge Kabukçu Başay, faculty member of the Department of Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Diseases, and Attorney Jülide Keleş Yarışan took part as trainers. Certificates of participation were presented by Prof. Dr. Osman İsmail Özdel, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, to 65 Faculty of Medicine students who participated in the entire training and passed the tests. It was also informed that similar training programs will continue at PAU Faculty of Medicine, an educational institution with an accreditation certificate.
