World Breastfeeding Week Event Held at PAU Hospitals
At Pamukkale University (PAU) Hospitals, World Breastfeeding Week—celebrated annually between August 1–7—was marked this year with an event themed “Sustainability in Breastfeeding,” aiming to highlight the long-term positive effects of breastfeeding on individuals, society, and the environment.
The event was attended by PAU Hospitals Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Hakan Alkan, Deputy Chief Physician Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atakan Yılmaz, Deputy Director Necla Altıntaş, the Nursing Services Directorate, Head of the Department of Pediatrics Prof. Dr. Özmert M. A. Özdemir, Department of Pediatrics Dr. Lecturer Ece Koyuncu, breastfeeding nurses, numerous healthcare professionals, as well as mothers and expectant mothers.
As part of the activities, Head of the Department of Pediatrics Prof. Dr. Özmert M. A. Özdemir and Faculty Member of the Division of Neonatology Dr. Ece Koyuncu provided information on the importance of breast milk and breastfeeding. The experts emphasized that breast milk is an unparalleled source of nutrition for protecting babies from infections, supporting immune system development, and ensuring healthy growth. They also underlined that breastfeeding is an environmentally friendly and economical feeding method that requires no production or packaging, thus contributing to sustainable development goals. On the occasion of World Breastfeeding Week, they invited all families, healthcare professionals, and the public to support breastfeeding.
Throughout the event, an information stand was set up inside the hospital to provide training and counseling services to mothers and expectant mothers, and brochures outlining the benefits of breastfeeding were distributed.
