Prof. Dr. Gamze Gököz Doğu, Head of the Oncology Department at Pamukkale University Hospitals, emphasized the vital importance of early diagnosis, regular screening, and healthy lifestyle habits in cancer, in a statement issued on the occasion of February 4, World Cancer Day.

In her statement, Prof. Dr. Gamze Gököz Doğu, Head of the Medical Oncology Department at PAU Hospitals, said: “Today, cancer is a disease that can largely be brought under control through early diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and regular follow-up. Thanks to scientific advances, our diagnostic and treatment capabilities continue to improve day by day; however, the most effective approach in the fight against cancer is to reduce risks before the disease occurs and to detect cancer at an early stage through screening programs. To reduce cancer risk, it is of great importance for individuals to pay attention to certain basic points in their daily lives. Avoiding tobacco and tobacco products, adopting healthy and balanced dietary habits, maintaining a healthy body weight, engaging in regular physical activity, and avoiding alcohol consumption are important steps in cancer prevention. In addition, not neglecting vaccination against chronic diseases, avoiding excessive exposure to ultraviolet radiation, ensuring the appropriate and safe use of radiation for diagnostic and treatment purposes, and reducing exposure to outdoor and indoor air pollution are also effective in lowering cancer risk.”

Prof. Dr. Gököz Doğu: “Early Diagnosis and Awareness Save Lives”

Stating that, as the Oncology Department of Pamukkale University Hospitals, they continue to stand by patients in the fight against cancer through multidisciplinary approaches, up-to-date and evidence-based treatment methods, and a patient-centered service approach, Gamze Gököz Doğu continued as follows: “Our aim is not only to provide treatment, but also to raise public awareness and to promote a culture of cancer prevention and early diagnosis. On this meaningful day, we invite all individuals not to neglect regular health check-ups, to participate in screening programs appropriate to their age and risk group, and to adopt healthy lifestyle habits; and we wish strength, patience, and hope to all our patients fighting cancer and to their families.”
