The “Epilepsy and Life Symposium,” organized by Prof. Dr. Olcay Güngör, Head of the Division of Pediatric Neurology at PAU Hospitals, within the scope of March 26 World Epilepsy Awareness Day, brought together specialist physicians and participants. Experts emphasized that especially misconceptions embedded in society directly affect the lives of children.
Prof. Dr. Olcay Güngör: “Increasing awareness about epilepsy is important not only for patients but for all segments of society.”
In his presentation at the symposium, Prof. Dr. Olcay Güngör, Head of the Division of Pediatric Neurology, stated that increasing awareness about epilepsy is important not only for patients but for all segments of society. Güngör emphasized that access to accurate information and early intervention play a decisive role in disease management. In other sessions, the psychosocial effects of epilepsy, as well as its medical dimension, were also evaluated. Participants expressed a common view that awareness-raising efforts regarding the disease should be increased. The event concluded with a purple balloon release activity organized as a concrete demonstration of the awareness message. The purple balloons released into the sky during the event held in front of the Faculty of Medicine Building, with the participation of children diagnosed with epilepsy and their families, became a strong symbol for increasing social awareness.
