Special Event for Primary Immunodeficiency Awareness Week Held at PAU Hospitals

30.04.2026
An event was organized by physicians and nurses of the Department of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology at Pamukkale University (PAU) Hospitals within the scope of Primary Immunodeficiency Awareness Week.

The event was attended by Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Hakan Alkan and the hospital administration, along with many doctors, nurses, patients, and patients’ relatives.

Prof. Dr. Ebru Arık Yılmaz, Head of the Department of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology at PAU Hospitals, emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and treatment in congenital immune deficiencies in her speech and made the following statements: “We know that congenital immune deficiencies are more common in our country than is assumed. These diseases can occur not only in infants but also in older children and even adults. Some of our children are born with various defects in their immune systems. For this reason, their bodies cannot fight microbes sufficiently, and compared to other children, they experience more frequent, longer-lasting, or more severe infections. Today, we came together here with our children who have immune deficiencies and their families in order to draw attention to these diseases and raise awareness. Thanks to advances in medicine today, with early diagnosis and correct treatment methods in immune deficiencies, children with this disease can lead much healthier, more active, and higher-quality lives.”

“Drawing attention to immune system diseases and emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis is a shared responsibility of all of us.”

Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Hakan Alkan also stated: “I am very pleased to be together with you at this meaningful event organized by the Department of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology within the scope of Primary Immunodeficiency Week. Drawing attention to immune system diseases and increasing public awareness is a shared responsibility of all of us. I would like to thank all my colleagues who contributed to this special week and wish healthy tomorrows.”

Children released balloons with their wishes together with their doctors and nurses who follow and treat them, and planted saplings. After the activities, various entertaining events were held with the “Düşlerden Gülüşlere” community, consisting of volunteer students from Pamukkale University Faculty of Medicine. The event ended with a group photo session.
