PAU Hospitals Statement on Heart Health Week

15.04.2026
Associate Professor Dr. İpek Büber, faculty member of the Department of Cardiology at Pamukkale University (PAU) Hospitals, issued important warnings on the occasion of Heart Health Week.

Drawing attention to the “Take a step for your heart today” call and the 12–18 April Heart Health Week, Associate Professor Dr. İpek Büber of the Cardiology Department at PAU Hospitals stated the following: “Cardiovascular diseases are the most common cause of death in the world and in our country. However, a large proportion of these diseases can be prevented or delayed through lifestyle changes. The most important risk factors in the development of heart diseases are high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking, excess weight, and a sedentary lifestyle. Over time, these risks lead to atherosclerosis, increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke. To eliminate these risks, you can walk or exercise for at least 150 minutes per week, eat a healthy and balanced diet (rich in vegetables, fruits, and olive oil), reduce salt intake, quit smoking if you are a smoker, monitor your blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol through regular medical check-ups, and pay attention to your sleep patterns and stress management. Remember: Heart diseases do not develop suddenly. They progress silently over the years. Therefore, taking early precautions is the most effective treatment. A small step you take today will return to you as a healthy heart tomorrow.”
