First Aid Is Awareness, Awareness Saves Lives
Pamukkale University (PAU) Hospitals Faculty Member of the Department of Emergency Medicine Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Seyit emphasized the importance of First Aid in his statement on “World First Aid Day.”
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Seyit, Faculty Member of the Department of Emergency Medicine at PAU Hospitals, shared the following information in his statement:
“First aid is a non-medicated practice performed at the scene, without searching for medical tools and equipment, using the available tools and equipment, in order to save lives or to prevent the situation from worsening until the assistance of healthcare professionals is provided in the event of an accident or any situation endangering life.”
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Seyit: “Anyone, at any time, in any place, may need first aid as a result of an accident or injury.”
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Seyit: “Every year, the second Saturday of September has been celebrated as ‘World First Aid Day’ simultaneously in 188 countries around the world since 2003. Every 5 seconds, 1 person dies as a result of injury in the world. Anyone, at any time, in any place, may need first aid as a result of an accident or injury. Especially elderly individuals in society lose their lives as a result of injuries caused by falls.
Intervention for patients/injured persons at the scene should be carried out quickly but calmly and consciously, depending on the assessment of their condition. If first aid is not known, the patient/injured person should never be touched or moved. Increasing and disseminating basic first aid training, and ensuring the rapid first intervention to the patient/casualty, will increase the number of survivors.”
