A World First in Urinary Incontinence Treatment

Pamukkale University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (FTR) Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Necmettin Yıldız and his colleagues developed "a new treatment method that can be used in the treatment of urinary incontinence".

This method (medial plantar nerve stimulation), which is applied by applying electricity from the sole of the foot in the treatment of female patients with urinary incontinence and shows its effect with nerve stimulation, was defined for the first time in the world by Prof. Dr. Necmettin Yıldız and his colleagues at Pamukkale University Faculty of Medicine, Department of PTR.

Prof. Dr. Yıldız made a statement about the treatment; by defining the details of the medial plantar nerve stimulation method; its effectiveness was demonstrated in women with urinary incontinence of the inability to reach type, and the results of this innovative study were published in an important international journal (Investigative and Clinical Urology) in July 2023. The method was reported to be effective when applied 2 days a week for a total of 12 sessions of 30 minutes each.

Expressing that they are very happy and proud to have developed a method that can be an alternative to other methods used in the treatment of urinary incontinence, Dr. Yıldız stated that since the method has just been defined, it may be a candidate for use in different types of urinary incontinence or in the treatment of other similar conditions.
