Earth Sciences Training in Çürüksu Basin- 5 Starts

The fifth of Earth Sciences Education in Çürüksu (Denizli) Basin, conducted by PAU Engineering Faculty Geological Engineering Department lecturer Assoc. Dr. Barış Semiz, started with the opening ceremony held at PAU Engineering Faculty Conference Hall.

Assoc. Dr. Barış Semiz wished the training that will continue for one week to be fun, high quality and full of science. He thanked the teachers who will receive training by expressing that the feedback they will receive as a result of this training will be transferred to their students in their own schools in an efficient way. Assoc. Dr. Semiz gave general information about the trainings and technical trips to be made in the continuation of his speech. The training program  aims to change the perspective of teachers working in schools (classroom, social studies, science and geography) towards earth science, to increase interest in earth sciences, and to ensure that participants spread the experiences they will gain in earth science education to their students and to all people they will reach in their environment.

Prof. Dr. Kumsar: “Earth Sciences are important for sustaining human life”

In his speech, Head of the Geology Department Prof. Dr. Halil Kumsar stated that geology has an impact on every aspect of our lives, from the use of natural resources that come out of the ground, to the fight against disasters that occur with the movements of nature, to the water we drink and the mobile phones we use. In this way, he stated that earth sciences are important for the continuation of human life and that they will experience this importance in the education to be carried out.

Within the scope of the nine-day training program; hands-on training will be held on Denizli Travertine Geopark, geothermal systems, caves, marble quarries, Kula Geopark, ancient cities around Denizli, Akça Geothermal Power Plant, Güney Waterfall, Cindere Dam, Ulubey Canyons, Kışladağ Gold Mine and Kula volcanic fields.
