An important seminar and training event aimed at raising awareness among students was held at Pamukkale University (PAU) Denizli Vocational School of Social Sciences (DSBMYO).

The event, organized under the title “Allowing Bank Accounts to be Used by Third Parties in Exchange for Material Benefit”, hosted Republic Prosecutors Muharrem Mert Tornacı and Meryem Oruç Demir. During the seminar, conducted in cooperation with the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and the Ministry of Justice, the increasing methods of digital fraud in recent years were comprehensively discussed. Prosecutors, serving in the Cybercrime Investigation Bureau of the Denizli Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, raised students’ awareness by drawing attention to the types of fraud that may occur in virtual environments. The prosecutors presented the topic in chronological order, showing how a case progresses from start to finish. The presentations emphasized that methods such as allowing bank accounts to be used by third parties in exchange for material benefit and opening multiple accounts under different names to rent them have serious legal consequences.

In addition, the event included examples of fraud cases arising from advertisements posted on fake websites, investigations into illegal betting crimes, the hacking of social media accounts, and clicking on unknown links. Other main topics covered were fraud attempts carried out through fake investment companies promising high returns, threats and blackmail via fake messaging, acts performed by intermediaries, and fake pages created under the pretense of offering scholarships.

Students were also shown how to use the joint/authorized inquiry screens on e-Government to check deposit accounts, mobile lines, and whether a company has been opened in their name. It was emphasized that it is very important for individuals to regularly check bank accounts and mobile lines opened in their name.

At the end of the seminar, students had the opportunity to ask the prosecutors questions directly. The event concluded with certificates of appreciation presented to the guest prosecutors by Vocational School Director Prof. Dr. Tülay Metin and Head of the Department of Foreign Trade, Assoc. Dr. Bahar Türk, who hosted the event.
