Generations Meet at Honaz Vocational School: OHS Students Show Loyalty to the Elderly
Pamukkale University (PAU) Honaz Vocational School (Honaz MYO) carried out a meaningful social responsibility event within the scope of “Respect for the Elderly Week.”
The event titled “Generations Meet at Honaz MYO: OHS Students Show Loyalty to the Elderly,” organized by Lecturer Dr. Pelin Suzan Işıkoğlu, was held with the participation of Honaz MYO Director and Head of the OHS Department Assistant Professor Necla İrem Ölmezoğlu İri, academic staff of the department, and students. During this visit to a nursing home operating in Honaz, younger generations and the “elderly” came together and displayed one of the best examples of social solidarity.
A Feast of Music and Meaningful Gifts
Students, who took care of the nursing home residents one by one, spent enjoyable time with elderly individuals by chatting with them. Within the scope of the event, gift packages prepared by the students, containing cologne and socks, were presented to the elderly. The most colorful moments of the visit were the live music performance accompanied by clarinet, bağlama, and guitar. The performed pieces provided both emotional and joyful moments for the nursing home residents. A warm bond between generations was established through songs sung together.
A Bridge of Hearts Built Between Generations
Emphasizing the importance of the event, Assistant Professor Necla İrem Ölmezoğlu İri stated that such activities increase students’ social awareness and said: “It is very valuable for us that our young people come together with our elders and make them feel that they are not alone. The discipline of occupational health and safety is not only a technical process but also a field centered on people. Today, we wanted to show our respect to our elders by being with them in person and to share in their life energy.”
The event ended after commemorative photographs taken in memory of the day and mutual good wishes.
