PAU Participated in the Social Contribution and Social Innovation Summit
The “Social Contribution and Social Innovation Summit,” organized in cooperation with the Anatolian Universities Union and Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University, was held in the city of Tokat on April 16–17 with the participation of representatives from 40 different universities.
Representing Pamukkale University, Lecturer Dr. Burcu Kördikanlıoğlu from Çal Vocational School, Deputy Head of the Health, Culture and Sports Department Ahmet Çay, Head of Nutrition Services Branch Ümit Kırsoy, and Food Engineer Serpil Saygın attended the summit.
At the summit, where the role of universities in producing solutions to social problems and sustainable social responsibility models were discussed, it was emphasized that establishing a social contribution calendar in line with the themes to be determined by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and conducting simultaneous studies across all universities within these themes would increase efficiency.
At the event, the projects developed by Pamukkale University titled “Sustainable Nutrition Approach Based on On-Site Production: Lacto-Ovo Vegetarian Campus Model” and “Sustainable Nutrition Approach Based on On-Site Production: Celiac-Friendly Campus Model” were presented.
The “Lacto-Ovo Vegetarian Campus Model” offers a sustainable system aimed at enabling individuals who do not consume meat or consume it in limited amounts to access safe, balanced, and accessible nutrition services in higher education institutions. Based on on-site production within the campus, this model supports a healthy and environmentally friendly nutritional approach.
Another project, the “Celiac-Friendly Campus Model,” aims to provide solutions for the safe nutritional needs of individuals with celiac disease and gluten sensitivity. Implemented for the first time at Pamukkale University in Türkiye, this model stands out as an exemplary application that aims to provide gluten-free meal services through on-site production and minimize the risk of cross-contamination.
These innovative and inclusive projects of Pamukkale University not only address current needs but also serve as an applicable model for other higher education institutions. In this respect, these studies contribute to the development of inter-university cooperation opportunities and position Pamukkale University as a pioneering and role-model institution in the fields of social contribution and sustainable campus practices. The visibility and interaction gained at the summit demonstrate that the university has gained an important advantage for potential national and international collaborations in the future.
