Psychology Students Make a Significant Contribution to Community Service
Presentations of the projects prepared by second-year students of the Department of Psychology at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS) of Pamukkale University (PAU) within the scope of the “Community Service Practices” course were held.
At the event organized in the Prof. Dr. İsmail Çetişli Conference Hall, students presented a total of 13 projects developed as part of the course on socially significant issues such as the environment, stray animals, Alzheimer’s disease, individuals with disabilities, peer bullying, children who have recovered from leukemia, the elderly, and children from low socioeconomic backgrounds. During the project process, students established collaborations with more than 20 institutions operating in Denizli, including non-governmental organizations such as TEGV, LÖSEV, UCİM, and the PASVAK Soup Kitchen, as well as the General Directorate of Forestry, the Public Education Center, kindergartens, and middle schools.
Course instructor Research Assistant Dr. Selver Özgür stated that the Community Service Practices course provides an important experience for students in developing social awareness, applying their psychological knowledge in the field, and strengthening their sense of social responsibility. Özgür noted that students’ development of projects addressing different areas of need is valuable both for their professional development and for their contribution to society.
As part of the event, Didem Cabi Secal, University Communities Coordinator of the UCİM Association, one of the non-governmental organizations supporting the projects, thanked the group that carried out the project within their institution and delivered a brief presentation introducing the UCİM Association to the participants in attendance.
The event concluded with evaluations and discussions following the students’ project presentations.
