PAU Students Visit DEKAMER

30.05.2022

Pamukkale University Animal Understanding Society (PAU HAYAT) students, within the scope of the research project of 'nesting and caging' of sea turtles, visited the Sea Turtles Research Rescue and Rehabilitation Center (DEKAMER) headed by the society advisor Prof. Dr. Yakup Kaska.

Explaining to the students that most of the sea turtles that are still under treatment are still being treated in the center due to a problem called diving problem, DEKAMER President Prof. Dr. Yakup Kaska said: “A healthy sea turtle can hold its breath underwater for 4-5 hours, but eventually it has to come to the surface and breathe. A sea turtle that is constantly on the surface is certain to be sick and has trouble diving. The causes of the diving problem are the blows on the head and shell, the boat hit, the plastic wastes eaten, bacterial infections, bacterial anomalies, birth-related or mutational factors."
