Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kutluhan welcomed Prof. Dr. Hasan Basri Yalçın, Faculty Member of Political Sciences, Istanbul University and AK Party Deputy Chairman for Human Rights, and the accompanying delegation to his office before the talk.

Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Durmuş Akalın, provincial protocol members, deans, academicians and students attended the event held at PAU Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences (İİBF) Martyr Infantry Lieutenant Bekir Can Kerek Conference Hall.

After a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem, Prof. Dr. Hasan Basri Yalçın's brief biography was presented.

Prof. Dr. Yalçın: "What we call the World Order is the structure that is designed to bring peace and justice within that order, left to the mercy of five states and these five states have their own agendas."

Prof. Dr. Hasan Basri Yalçın, who made a short speech at the interview program on World Order and Turkey, stated the following: "In the international system, it is very important to talk about Turkey in the World Order, especially nowadays, considering the recent events. The World Order we live in today has gone through various phases to get to this point. There are some basic parameters and within the framework of these parameters, we are experiencing the sum total of various cultural and material factors that affect our daily lives, Turkey's domestic politics, economy, social structure and family organization. I mean, for example, today we are living in a United Nations system. What is the United Nations? It is an international organization, founded in 1945, which defines how the states of the world should live in peace and stability with each other, and which we expect to protect and preserve peace and justice. 193 states in the world are members of this organization. They all want this organization to bring peace and justice to the world. But if you ask how much this organization has really contributed to the sense of peace and justice since its establishment, we have to say that in real terms this is a very limited reach. For example, if you ask if there are any examples since 1945 where the United Nations has actually taken a decision and intervened in international politics anywhere and actually produced peace and justice, unfortunately there are not. Sometimes it has taken decisions and those decisions have not been implemented, sometimes it has not even taken decisions. You all know the examples where it failed to take decisions. We have already seen many examples in recent days. For example, in Gaza, a child is killed every ten minutes. The number of civilian casualties of civilian people has reached over fifteen thousand. It is approaching twenty thousand. And a city, not a city, but a cluster of cities, two and a half million people live in a narrow area. And a state is dropping bombs on these people from above. Phosphorus bombs, banned bombs and so on. 

Despite this, the United Nations Security Council has still not even issued a "Stop" warning on this issue. This international system sometimes uses concepts such as human rights, democracy, universal values. The Security Council of the United Nations has a working principle. It has five permanent members; the victorious countries of World War II. Britain, France, America, China and Russia. This United Nations, which is supposed to dispense justice and bring peace, is now massacring children in Gaza. These five countries cannot even gather and say "Stop" this massacre, let alone take measures, let alone say "Don't go any further". There are 193 countries in the world that are members of this organization. It does not matter what these 193 countries think. When the United States of America alone, Britain alone, France alone say no, the children in Palestine continue to be killed. Unfortunately, this is the World Order we live in. What we call the World Order, the structure that was designed to bring peace and justice within that order, is left at the mercy of five states and these five states have their own agendas. They vote within the framework of those agendas. And when it suits them, they make judgments on Turkey, for example. They discuss issues such as democratic rights and human rights in Turkey. Does the child who dies in Palestine have no rights? Don't children and people whose heads explode, whose arms are broken, whose legs are broken have no rights? Unfortunately, no. Because these countries have their own agendas. 

Unfortunately, these values that they impose on us, advertise to us, propagandize to us within the framework of their agenda are not compatible with themselves. That is why we say that human rights, democracy, peace and justice are beautiful concepts. Let's pursue them together.

Prof. Dr. Yalçın: "The ground of legitimacy on which Western countries base themselves has started to slip out from under them."

Yes, in this country, in Turkey, in England, in Germany, in France, in China, in Russia, in Japan, in Brazil, wherever human rights are being violated, wherever the values we call universal are being violated, let's take a position. But when it suits you, one organization is a terrorist organization, when it doesn't suit you, the other organization is not a terrorist organization. When it suits you, a human being has the right to life, when it doesn't suit you, a child does not have the right to life. Unfortunately, this is the international order we live in, the World Order. Who established this order? The states that won the Second World War established it. Today we see the result of this. There is an expression that our President uses from time to time, perhaps for the last 10 years, when he goes to every United Nations meeting. He says the world is bigger than five. You have gathered five cronies, you can ignore the opinion of billions of people about this World Order, you can ignore the killing of hundreds of thousands of people in Gaza, Syria, Iraq, and you call this peace and justice universal values. Until now, we all knew that all of this was a lie, but with Gaza, it has become so clear that the ground of legitimacy on which the western countries base themselves has completely slipped out from under them. I think all of us have realized that from now on, in the Gaza issue or in any other poor country, no good will come to them from the western countries, from these countries. When any of these countries say that there is no democracy in your country, let us bring democracy to you, I think we have all understood that this is not sincere. When any of these countries say in their media that human rights are being violated in your country, we have learned that they do not care about human rights. Yes, we had strong suspicions until now, but this latest Gaza incident has shown us very clearly that what they call universal values are actually created to be used as they see fit. That is why every year when our President goes to the United Nations, he says 'The world is bigger than five'. Five countries take decisions on their own, they have created a system of privilege, you turn a blind eye to any harm that does not touch them and you call this the World Order."

Prof. Dr. Hasan Basri Yalçın, the guest of the interview program on World Order and Turkey, answered the questions of the students after a short evaluation on the Gaza issue, the Middle East issue, Turkey's foreign policy and security policy.
