TÜSEB Projects Information Meeting Brings Together Medical and Industrial Sectors in Denizli
The “TÜSEB Projects Information Meeting,” organized by the Pamukkale University (PAU) Project Support Office (PDO) with the aim of reducing Türkiye’s foreign dependency in the field of health and encouraging domestic production, brought together the medical and industrial sectors in Denizli.
The meeting was attended by Pamukkale University Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmud Güngör, President of the Turkish Health Institutes (TÜSEB) Prof. Dr. Ümit Kervan, Deputy Chair of Denizli Chamber of Commerce (DTO) Melek Sözkesen, as well as many academics, industrialists, businesspeople, and students. At the meeting, Denizli’s medical technical textile potential and wearable health technologies came to the forefront, and a strategic cooperation protocol was signed between PAU and TÜSEB.
“Denizli is Transforming from Classical Textile to Medical Technical Textile”
In her opening speech, DTO Deputy Chair Melek Sözkesen stated that Denizli has long been one of Türkiye’s strongest textile production centers, but that it is now gaining significant momentum with the “Technical Textile Transformation Project,” moving beyond traditional production. Emphasizing that the pandemic period revealed the importance of domestic medical production, Sözkesen said, “We have a wide production potential ranging from surgical textiles to smart fabrics and wound dressings. When TÜSEB’s vision and the production power of our industrialists come together, we will achieve great things.”
TÜSEB Emphasizes “Purchase Guarantee” and “Wearable Technology” in Domestic Production
Drawing attention to the high import rate in Türkiye’s health expenditures, TÜSEB President Prof. Dr. Ümit Kervan stated that they set out with the philosophy of “From Idea to Product.” He noted that they focus on biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and genome projects, and made a special reference to Denizli’s textile infrastructure: “Now smart t-shirts that measure heart rate, exertion, and sweat, and sensor-based wearable clothing are replacing wristwatches. Our strongest aspect on the Denizli side will be here.” Kervan also announced that a purchase guarantee is provided by the Ministry of Health for domestically produced medical devices and products supported by TÜSEB that achieve success.
“Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering” Department to Open at PAU
Underlining that scientific production should touch human life, Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmud Güngör stated that as a university they are fully ready to work and produce projects with TÜSEB. Rector Güngör also announced an important development at the meeting, stating that the “Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering” department will be opened within the Faculty of Engineering at Pamukkale University and that the necessary Council of Higher Education (YÖK) approvals have been obtained.
Major Cooperation Between PAU and TÜSEB in Health Technologies: Strategic Protocol Signed
Following the opening speeches, in order to concretize university-industry-public cooperation and accelerate R&D activities in Denizli’s health technologies, PAU Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmud Güngör and TÜSEB President Prof. Dr. Ümit Kervan were invited to the stage. A strategic cooperation protocol foreseeing the development of joint projects between the two institutions was signed amid applause.
After the signing ceremony, the event continued with the “TÜSEB Projects Panel,” where application processes and technical details of the projects were explained.
