“Tree of Life” at PAU Hospitals Grows with Handprints of Hope
Launched on 1 January 2026 with the support of the Department of Medical Oncology and the Directorate of Nursing Services at Pamukkale University (PAU) Hospitals, the “Tree of Life” project is becoming a meaningful story through the handprints of patients who have completed breast cancer treatment.
Launched to raise awareness of breast cancer and shed light on the hopeful stories of patients who have completed their treatment, the project has gradually transformed into a tree of hope that grows with real handprints.
As part of the project, which began in January as a symbol of hope and solidarity, the handprints of breast cancer patients who completed their treatment at PAU Hospitals have taken their place on the tree’s branches. Each handprint represents a treatment journey left behind, a struggle endured and a new beginning.
Oncology Nurse Educator Ayşegül Çimentepe, who coordinates the project, highlighted the meaningful bond it has established with patients, stating, “Each handprint carries the mark of a treatment journey left behind and a new beginning. Seeing our tree grow over time through the handprints of our patients has been the most meaningful aspect of the project for us.”
Prof. Dr. Gamze Gököz Doğu, Head of the Department of Medical Oncology, emphasised the importance of early diagnosis in breast cancer and noted that awareness initiatives are also important in ensuring that patients do not feel alone during their treatment.
As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, the latest version of the project was shared with the public. Each handprint on the “Tree of Life” continues to stand as a symbol of hope, solidarity, perseverance and a new beginning.
