10.03.2026
Pamukkale University (PAU) Hospitals Chief Physician and Faculty Member of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Prof. Dr. Hakan Alkan, issued a statement on the occasion of Pulmonary Rehabilitation Week (8–14 March), emphasizing the importance of respiratory health.

He noted that pulmonary rehabilitation is a comprehensive treatment approach aimed not only at exercise programs but also at improving patients’ respiratory capacity, supporting daily life activities, and enhancing overall quality of life. He highlighted that it is an essential component of treatment for chronic lung diseases such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), interstitial lung diseases, and pulmonary fibrosis. Regular rehabilitation programs help reduce shortness of breath, increase exercise capacity, and support patients in maintaining independent living.

Prof. Dr. Alkan also stressed the importance of early diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and access to rehabilitation services, recommending that at-risk individuals avoid smoking, engage in regular physical activity, and seek medical attention without delay when respiratory symptoms occur. He added that PAU Hospitals continue to raise awareness and apply modern, evidence-based rehabilitation approaches to improve patients’ quality of life.
