Prior to a talk held at the Faculty of Education at Pamukkale University, a selection of works by Dr. Mehmet Gürsoy—recognized by UNESCO as a “Living Human Treasure”—was exhibited for attendees.

A special exhibition and talk featuring Dr. Mehmet Gürsoy, UNESCO’s Living Human Treasure and master of Turkish tile art, was hosted by Pamukkale University. The event drew the attendance of Denizli Governor Ömer Faruk Coşkun, Pamukkale University Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmud Güngör, local officials, faculty, administrative staff, and students.

Before the talk, Dr. Gürsoy introduced his works to the protocol members and art enthusiasts. He later took the stage for a conversation titled “The Philosophy of Art and Living İznik Tiles,” where he engaged with the audience.

Rector Güngör: “For a cultural treasure born from this land to echo again within these lands is the most beautiful result of our vision.”

In his opening remarks, Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmud Güngör stated:
“Today, we welcome a master who breathes life into tiles—where patience and art meet with elegance. In the works of Dr. Mehmet Gürsoy, who was born in Bekilli and whose art has become part of humanity’s cultural heritage, we see a life devoted to the earth and a heart in love with culture. Art can be a color, a pattern, or a meticulously crafted motif—but what truly matters is the soul the artist instills in it. Today, we witness that spirit in the humble hands of Dr. Gürsoy. In every brushstroke lies a life dedicated to craftsmanship, a heart loyal to tradition, and a delicate yet firm bridge from the past to the future. His journey is woven with humanity, earth, faith, and time. For our students, academics, and art lovers to witness this story is both a privilege and an honor for us. Our university strives to be a space where not only science but also cultural and artistic values can flourish. For a cultural treasure born from this land to echo again within these lands is the most beautiful result of our vision. On behalf of myself and the entire Pamukkale University family, I extend my deepest gratitude to our esteemed guest for sharing this meaningful day with us.”

During the joint talk held with calligraphy artist Ömer Özgül, Dr. Gürsoy shared the intricacies of tile art, including the techniques used in production, the symbolism behind figures, and the deeper meanings of traditional compositions.

The event concluded with Denizli Governor Ömer Faruk Coşkun and Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmud Güngör presenting certificates of appreciation to Dr. Mehmet Gürsoy and calligrapher Ömer Özgül.
