PAU Hospitals Issue Statement on World Cerebral Palsy Day

07.10.2026
Prof. Dr. Olcay Güngör, Faculty Member and Head of the Division of Pediatric Neurology at Pamukkale University (PAU) Hospitals, drew attention to the needs of individuals with cerebral palsy and the importance of raising public awareness.

Prof. Dr. Olcay Güngör, Head of the Division of Pediatric Neurology at PAU Hospitals: “Cerebral palsy is a lifelong neurodevelopmental condition that affects movement and posture due to an impairment in the developing brain. The extent to which each child is affected and their need for support vary. If you notice delays in your baby’s ability to hold their head up, sit, or walk; significant asymmetry in their movements; or excessive stiffness or looseness in their muscles, be sure to consult a doctor for an evaluation. These signs alone do not necessarily indicate cerebral palsy; however, early evaluation is important. Early diagnosis and support tailored to the child’s needs can strengthen their development and participation in daily life. Ensuring that our children have access to healthcare services, rehabilitation, education, and play areas is everyone’s responsibility. Families also need to be supported throughout this process. Every child has the right to learn, play, and take part in society. Let us turn awareness into equal opportunities.”
