The new treatment method developed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ufuk Kutluana, a faculty member of Pamukkale University (PAU) Hospitals, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology, has been recognized by the international medical community. The method, developed with a device designed by Dr. Kutluana himself, was published as an original article in the European Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, one of the world’s prestigious journals in the field of gastroenterology.

Regarding the new method he developed, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ufuk Kutluana stated the following:

“Most colon cancers develop from colon polyps. Therefore, the endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of colon polyps or early-stage colon cancers is very important. Today, the non-surgical endoscopic ESD and EMR are the treatment methods in which the most progress has been made. Until now, since Asia and Europe were ahead in this field, we were following innovations from them. As a Turkish physician, I wanted to make my contribution as well. I have developed for the first time in the world this treatment method, which I named EWBR (endoscopic wide band resection). It enables us to remove, in one piece (en bloc), without surgery and with safe surgical margins, colon polyps up to 2.5 cm in size in selected individuals with bleeding tendency and comorbidities. For this method, it is necessary to mount the device I designed myself onto the colonoscopy device. This new method is effective in lesions too large to be removed by the classical EMR method, and it is also performed in a much shorter time compared to the ESD method. Moreover, it minimizes complications such as bleeding and perforation compared to the other two methods. The study in which I compiled the patients I treated with this method was approved and published in a prestigious international medical journal in a short time. I am very happy and proud to have brought such an innovation to world medicine.”
