The opening lecture of Denizli Vocational School of Social Sciences was held with the lecture of Prof. Dr. Türkan ERDOĞAN on "The Republic as a Women's Revolution and Its Gains".
In order to understand and celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey, Denizli Vocational School of Social Sciences hosted an event on "The Republic as a Women's Revolution and Its Gains" as part of the opening lecture of the 2023-2024 Academic Year.
The opening lecture started with a moment of silence and the National Anthem followed by the speech of Prof. Dr. Nergis Biray, Director of the School. Prof. Dr. Türkan Erdoğan, Head of the Department of Sociology at Pamukkale University Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, delivered an impressive speech examining the social role of women from the Ottoman Empire to the present day. Prof. Erdoğan contributed to the awareness of history and society by emphasizing the changing role and achievements of women in the Republican period and the important transformations brought by the Republic for women. Speaking about the fact that Turkish women did not easily obtain the rights they have today, and that they have made many efforts since the Ottoman Empire to obtain these rights and to make their voices heard, Erdoğan explained that with the Republic, these efforts were continued through associations established, publications in magazines and newspapers, and congresses organized.
At the end of the event, which was well attended, Denizli Vocational School of Social Sciences Director Prof. Dr. Nergis Biray presented flowers and a certificate of appreciation to Prof. Dr. Türkan Erdoğan in order to thank her and express their gratitude for her contributions.
