Pamukkale University Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kutluhan published a message on the occasion of May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day.

"Today, we are proud to celebrate the 104th anniversary of the liberation struggle we started as a nation when Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk set foot in Samsun to liberate our occupied homeland and declare our independence.

May 19, 1919 is one of the turning points of a nation that has lived and will live freely throughout history and is a day when Atatürk lit the torch of freedom from Samsun and set off with the Turkish Nation. The "Torch of Independence" lit with this first step passed through Amasya, Sivas and Erzurum; it spread to all four corners of the homeland and eventually evolved into a war of liberation.

The Republic of Turkey, under whose flag we can live comfortably today, came into existence thanks to the sublime struggle of our beloved nation, from young to old, to protect its independence and our future. This superior effort on the road to independence has undoubtedly cost us a great price. But these unprecedented sacrifices have of course been the harbinger of a strong future. Because the Republic of Turkey is a unique work of our nation's unity and solidarity, the will to live together with all its elements and to unite in common values.

The struggle for independence, which culminated in the establishment of our Republic, makes us feel that we should act with the same consciousness today and to raise the Republic of Turkey, which was entrusted to us, above the level of modern civilizations.

It is a source of pride for us that the Republic of Turkey's domestic and national technology productions and breakthroughs in the defense industry are being put forward by our young minds. These initiatives also reveal the vision of our youth. As Pamukkale University, we are fully aware of our responsibilities in raising individuals who are loyal to national and spiritual values, respectful to democracy and human rights, capable of finding solutions to problems, researching, using technology in the best way, common sense and above all good individuals in order to protect our future that Atatürk entrusted to the Turkish Youth. In different fields of science, economics, industry, technology, culture, arts and sports, our efforts to prepare our valuable young people who will lead our country and our citizens to the goal of a happy, prosperous and strong Turkey in the best way for the future will continue unceasingly to contribute to the goal of 'Strong Turkey' today and in the future as it was yesterday at our University, which has left a quarter century behind.

Dear Young People,

The dizzying development in technology in today's world paves the way for changes in many areas that affect human life. We always need you, young minds, to be present in this rapid transformation and to move forward! You are the ones who work hard to protect the integrity of the homeland! I firmly believe that you will lead our country to a strong future in unity and solidarity.

You, as the Turkish Youth, whom Atatürk trusted and gifted today as a holiday, will never forget the outstanding heroism and great sacrifices of our ancestors; you will carry our Republic, which has been entrusted to you, to further progress in every field with the strength and inspiration you draw from the glorious history of our beloved nation. It is your most important duty to keep this sacred trust alive and protect it forever. We trust you in this regard and look to the future with hope.

With these feelings and thoughts, I commemorate with mercy and gratitude all our martyrs, especially the Great Leader Ghazi Mustafa Kemal ATATÜRK, to whom we owe our independence and freedom, I wish a healthy life to our living heroic veterans, and I celebrate the May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk and Youth and Sports Day of all our young people, the only guarantee of our future.

Greetings and best regards."
