PAU's 'Comprehension with Speed Reading' Research Receives Support from TUBITAK
Finding scientific studies on speed reading and comprehension insufficient, Pamukkale University (PAU) Faculty of Education Res. Assist. Dr. Ulaş İlic's project was supported by TÜBİTAK. The 24-month study will investigate the accuracy of techniques that claim to provide comprehension through reading.
The project application prepared by PAU Faculty of Education academicians was found successful as a result of academic evaluation and accepted by the Directorate of Research Support Programs (ARDEB) in the 2nd period of 2023 within the scope of TÜBİTAK "1001-Scientific and Technological Research Projects Support Program".
PAU Faculty of Education, Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technology Education Res. Assist. Dr. Ulaş İlic, a lecturer at the Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technology Education of PAU Faculty of Education, and the scholarship holder of the project is Res. Assist. Dr. Ulaş İlic, a lecturer at the Department of Turkish Education. The project titled "Development of Data Collection Software to Examine the Effects of Bionic Reading Manipulations on Learning Outcomes, Cognitive Load and Metacognitive Judgments in Computer-Assisted Learning Environments" by Zehra Nur Bayındır, a lecturer at the Department of Turkish Education, was the only project of the university to be supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Support Group (SOBAG) in 2023.
Research Assist. Dr. Ulaş İliç: "Software will be developed within the scope of the project."
Stating that they started working after noticing the application called Bionic Reading, which claims to provide comprehension with fast reading, Project Executive Research Assistant Dr. Ulaş İlic said, "We have seen that scientific studies on this software, which is very popular and has various awards, are insufficient. Therefore, we decided to prove the situation experimentally. With the project we will carry out, we aim to examine the accuracy of the techniques that claim to provide comprehension with speed reading. In our project, which is entitled to be supported within the scope of TÜBİTAK 1001 and will last 24 months, we will develop a software to achieve our goal. At the end of the project, we think that we will contribute to the aim of improving the capacity to produce and use information and increasing innovation activities to support high value-added products and services."
