Panel on "Rational Drug Use" Organized
Pamukkale University (PAU) Tavas Vocational School of Health Services Department of Pharmacy Services organized a panel on "Rational Drug Use".
"Rational Drug Use" panel was organized by Tavas Health Services Vocational School Pharmacy Services Department. Tavas District National Education Director and Tavas State Hospital Deputy Chief Physician, as well as Tavas District protocol participated in the panel. Prof. Dr. Tamer Edirne, Head of PAU Faculty of Medicine, Department of Internal Sciences, Department of Family Medicine, and PAU Hospital Chief Pharmacist Özlem Balaban took part in the panel as speakers.
Tavas Health Services Vocational School Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selim Parlaz, who made the opening speech of the panel, gave brief information to the students of the Department of Pharmacy Services about the activities carried out. Speaking as the panel moderator, Head of the Department of Pharmacy Services, Lecturer Dr. Selin Engür Öztürk; stated that they attach great importance to raising awareness about Rational Drug Use, so they aim that this event will increase the awareness of the rational use of medication in future pharmacy technician candidates.
PAU Hospital Chief Pharmacist Özlem Balaban explained the concept of rational medicine: "The concept of rational medicine is the use of appropriate medication, appropriate duration and appropriate dose." Chief Pharmacist Balaban mentioned that physicians and pharmacists have great responsibilities in rational drug use. He concluded his speech by emphasizing that unnecessary use of drug groups such as antibiotics and vitamins should be prevented.
Prof. Dr. Tamer Edirne, another speaker of the panel, evaluated Rational Drug Use from a physician's perspective and drew attention to the principles of 'Efficacy, Safety, Appropriateness and Cost' of rational drug use with the title 'Four Golden Standards in Drug Selection'. Prof. Dr. Edirne concluded his speech by sharing his experiences with the students of the Department of Pharmacy Services, giving examples from current life on issues related to prescription information, generic medication and the importance of communication with the patient.
The panel ended with the questions from the students of the Department of Pharmacy Services being answered by the speakers and the presentation of gifts.
