Mahtumkulu Firaki Commemorated at PAU ITBF on the 300th Anniversary of his Birth

Pamukkale University (PAU) Turkish Yurts Culture and Art Community and the Department of Contemporary Turkish Dialects and Literatures jointly organized the program titled “Commemorating and Understanding Mahtumkulu Firaki in the 300th Year of his Birth” at Prof. Dr. İsmail Çetişli Conference Hall.
The exhibition consisting of posters about Mahtumkulu, one of the pinnacle figures of the Turkish world literature, was opened by Prof. Dr. Yasemin Beyazıt, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (ITBF). In the continuation of the program, presentations about Mahtumkulu's life and works were made by students and poems were read in Prof. Dr. İsmail Çetişli Conference Hall. Books about Mahtumkulu Firaki published in Turkmenistan and Turkey were exhibited. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Soner Sağlam, faculty member of the Department of Contemporary Turkish Dialects and Literatures, stated that a course titled 'Mahtumkulu and Turkmen Literature Studies' is taught in the department and these posters were prepared by the students as a course assignment. Stating that Mahtumkulu is one of the common values of the Turkic world just like Ahmet Yesevi, Mahmut of Kashgar, Yunus Emre, Sağlam pointed out that such activities are of great importance in order to ensure cultural unity in the Turkic world.
