First Steps Taken to Establish a Knifemaking Workshop

The first steps were taken to establish a knife workshop at Serinhisar Vocational School, which will start accepting students to the Knifemaking and Hand Tools Production Technology Program this year. In this context, a meeting was held at Serinhisar Vocational School with the participation of those concerned.

Serinhisar Mayor Hüseyin Gemi, Vocational School Director Dr. Mehmet Ali Ekinci, President of Yatağan Chamber of Craftsmen and Artisans Âlim Ayduran, President of Yatağan Industrial Site Cooperative Erkan Kaya, President of Knifemaking Cooperative Yılmaz Başyeğit, Mufti Arif Akşit Education and Culture Foundation executives, Ömer Pirge, Owner of PİRGE, one of the leading companies in Bursa, and Yatağan knifemaking tradesmen attended the meeting.

In the opening speech of the meeting, Vocational School Director Dr. Mehmet Ali Ekinci gave information about the opening process of the department and the point it has reached. Emphasizing that this department, which is the first and only one in Turkey, should be embraced as an exemplary project. Prof. Dr. Ekinci stated that the establishment of the workshop with the cooperation of the sector and the school will better meet the need for sought-after personnel needed by the sector. At the end of the meeting, Head of the Department of Materials and Materials Processing Technologies, Lecturer Erol Büker made a presentation about the department introduction. Goals, workshop needs and expectations from the sector were expressed. At the meeting, it was decided by the participants to cooperate in meeting the material needs of the workshop, while the knife tradesmen who could not attend the meeting were included in the process and a consensus was reached to hold a meeting again at a later date.
