Denizli to Host the International Excavation Symposium
The 42nd International Excavation, Research and Archeometry Symposium will be held between 23-27 May 2022 at the Metropolitan Municipality Nihat Zeybekci Congress and Culture Center in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Pamukkale University and Denizli Metropolitan Municipality. As Turkey's first University with the Archeology Graduate School, PAU will contribute to the symposium with its excavations.
International Excavation, Research and Archeometry Symposium is one of the most important events in the world in this field, in terms of excavations and research carried out by the archeology and art history departments, as well as anthropological and archaeometric analysis.
Head of Archeology Department Prof. Dr. Celal Şimşek stated that important excavations and research have been carried out in Archeology and Art History Departments of PAU for 20 years. Prof. Dr. Şimşek said: “The excavations of Laodikeia, Tripolis and Tabae (Kale-i Tavas) have continued uninterruptedly for over 12 months of the year, especially in Denizli, where our University is located, and surface explorations of Attouda (Sarayköy-Hisar) and Kolossai (Honaz) are carried out. In addition, the archaeological excavations and restoration works of Stratonikeia and Lagina (Muğla-Yatağan), Sillyon (Antalya-Serik) and Olympos (Antalya-Kemer) are carried out by the scientists of our University. In the continuation of the mentioned excavation and restoration works, our University makes an important contribution to science and society in terms of revealing, resurrecting, protecting, introducing and transferring the archaeological richness of our country to future generations and to the world.”
