Two Organ Donations in Two Days at PAU Hospitals Give Life to Seven Patients
Two organ donations carried out at Pamukkale University (PAU) Hospitals within the last two days, with the consent of the families of two patients who were diagnosed with brain death, gave life to seven patients.
The two separate organ donation processes at PAU Hospitals in recent days were meticulously conducted by the Organ Transplant Coordination Unit. Following discussions held with the families of patients treated in intensive care units and diagnosed with brain death, and upon receiving their consent, in the first case the liver, heart, and kidneys; and in the second case the liver and two kidneys were successfully retrieved. The donated organs were dispatched to relevant centers to be delivered to patients awaiting transplantation.
PAU Hospital Organ Transplant Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aslı Mete Yıldız stated in her remarks regarding the process that the importance of organ donation and all its stages were explained in detail to the relatives of the patients, and that the sensitivity shown by the families gave hope to many patients.
“A decision can change more than one life. Be hope through organ donation.”
Yıldız also thanked, in this process, Organ Transplant Unit Responsible Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Onur Birsen, the dedicated intensive care team, organ transplant coordinators Dilek Özer and Nazlı Pala, organ transplant nurses, surgical teams, Tissue Typing Laboratory Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ergun Mete and his team for their contributions.
She also emphasized the importance of organ donation, stating: “Organ donation is one of the most meaningful acts of kindness that saves lives. It should not be forgotten that a single donation decision can give more than one person a chance to live again.”
