Special Cocktail Event Held at PAU Hospitals for Nursing Week
Pamukkale University (PAU) Hospitals organized a well-attended celebration program on the 13th floor of the Plaza Building within the scope of Nursing Week.
At the event held on May 14, the hospital administration drew attention to the vital role of the nursing profession within the healthcare system while presenting a series of activities that demonstrated loyalty to retired personnel and boosted the morale of employees.
Delivering the opening speech of the program, Director of Nursing Services Demet Ekici referred to this year’s theme of the International Council of Nurses (ICN) and emphasized the strategic importance of nursing within the healthcare system. In her speech, Ekici stated, “The theme ‘Our Nurses, Our Future: Caring for Nurses Strengthens Economies’ is a summary of the struggle we carry out in the field. The more nurses’ education, working conditions, and professional development are supported, the stronger public health and patient safety will become. Nursing is not merely a supportive service; it is the fundamental element of a sustainable healthcare system and the essence of qualified care.”
Ekici also expressed her sensitivity regarding increasing workload and personnel shortages, stating that they were working in coordination with the Rectorate on certificate programs and improvement efforts supporting professional development. Demet Ekici concluded her speech by celebrating Nursing Week.
Speaking at the event, Chief Administrative Officer Dr. Murat Taşer emphasized the devoted work of nurses, saying, “The true strength of a hospital is measured not only by its technology but also by the quality and dedication of its human resources. You ensure the uninterrupted continuation of the system by serving day and night in intensive care units, emergency departments, and wards. As administrators, we are aware of our responsibility to improve your working conditions and ensure that your efforts receive the value they deserve. Strong healthcare services are only possible with happy and strong healthcare workers.”
Deputy Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Atakan Yılmaz also highlighted the professional depth of nursing and its importance within the team, stating, “Healthcare service is teamwork, and our nurses are the most compassionate and patient link of this team. I sincerely thank each and every one of you for your knowledge, professional experience, and the selfless compassion you provide to our patients.”
Following the opening speeches, retirement plaques and gifts were presented to retired nurses who had served the institution devotedly for many years by Deputy Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Atakan Yılmaz and Director of Nursing Services Demet Ekici.
One of the most remarkable parts of the program was the performance carried out by nurses who had received sign language training. Healthcare workers interpreted the song “Parla” in sign language, drawing attention to accessible healthcare services. Following the performance, a certificate of appreciation and a gift were presented to instructor nurse Fatma Coşkun by Deputy Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Nusret Ök on behalf of her teammates in recognition of her contributions to the project.
The program, which also included cultural activities, featured a folk dance team consisting of nurses performing traditional folk dances of the Denizli region in local costumes. The karaoke competition held in the final part of the event created colorful moments. Awards were presented to the winners of the competition, and the program concluded with music.
