09.10.2025
Within the scope of World Breastfeeding Week (October 1-7), Pamukkale University (PAU) Hospitals organized various informational and educational activities to raise awareness about the importance of breast milk and infant nutrition.

The event was attended by Deputy Chief Physician Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atakan Yılmaz, Dr. Ece Koyuncu from the Department of Pediatrics and Neonatology, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ümit Çabuş from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Deputy Hospital Director Necla Altıntaş, Nursing Services Director Demet Ekici, assistant directors, breastfeeding consultants, and numerous healthcare professionals.

In his opening speech, Deputy Chief Physician Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atakan Yılmaz stated:

“Through the breastfeeding consultancy provided to my spouse after the birth of our child, we personally experienced how valuable and guiding this process is. I thank all healthcare colleagues supporting families during this period. Our hospital assumes an important responsibility in promoting breastfeeding and raising awareness about its significance. We believe that our breastfeeding consultancy services contribute not only to mother and infant health but also to societal awareness. We will continue these efforts with our experienced healthcare team.”

Dr. Ece Koyuncu emphasized:

“Breast milk is not only the most ideal nutrition for a newborn but also a unique source that strengthens immunity, protects against infections, and supports healthy development. The World Health Organization recommends initiating breastfeeding within the first hour after birth and exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months. The sustainability of this process largely depends on the knowledge, sensitivity, and guidance of healthcare professionals. Every healthcare worker who provides accurate information, supports patiently, and instills confidence is touching the future of a baby.”

“Breast Milk Is a Unique Resource”

Nursing Services Director Demet Ekici added:

“The declaration of 2025 as the ‘Year of the Family’ underscores the importance of strengthening the family institution, which forms the foundation of society, and raising healthy generations. In our institution, nurses and midwives not only teach mothers correct breastfeeding techniques but also patiently guide them through challenges, serving as a strong bridge that protects both mother and baby health. We sincerely thank all doctors, nurses, midwives, and healthcare professionals who guide mothers with knowledge and compassion and contribute to the upbringing of healthy generations.”

Certificates of appreciation were presented to nurses, midwives, and staff working in clinics providing breastfeeding consultancy, including those in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic, delivery room, recovery unit, and neonatal intensive care unit, as well as Nurse Sunay Keyikçi and Nurse Gülay Öncel from the Breastfeeding and Relactation Clinic, for their contributions.

To boost morale and motivation, gifts were presented to mothers who had recently given birth. Throughout the week, a hospital stand continued to serve mothers seeking breastfeeding education and consultancy, while the Breastfeeding and Relactation Clinic distributed educational brochures alongside its training programs.
