Pamukkale University Calls for Awareness on World Cerebral Palsy Day
Prof. Dr. Olcay Güngör, Head of the Division of Pediatric Neurology at Pamukkale University (PAU) Hospitals, emphasized the importance of early diagnosis, rehabilitation, and public awareness in cerebral palsy.
Prof. Dr. Güngör stated, “Cerebral palsy (CP), one of the most common causes of motor disability in childhood, results from brain injury occurring before, during, or after birth, leading to permanent but potentially improvable impairments in movement and posture with appropriate intervention. Early diagnosis, regular rehabilitation, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, spasticity management, and, when necessary, surgical approaches can significantly enhance children’s participation and quality of life.
We call on families to seek pediatric neurology and physical therapy evaluations without delay if they observe warning signs such as delays in motor milestones, asymmetry, abnormal muscle tone, or feeding difficulties. For educators and local authorities, ensuring accessible schools and public spaces is among our primary goals. On this World Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day, October 6, we amplify our support with green—the color of awareness—and invite society as a whole to stand with our children,” she said, calling for greater awareness.
