Four Innovative Healthcare Projects Carried Out at PAÜ Hospitals Using Radiation-Free Thermal Camera

16.07.2025
At Pamukkale University (PAÜ) Hospitals, four innovative clinical research projects have been implemented using an advanced thermal imaging system developed by the Canada-based company TELOPS.

The projects were conducted under the coordination of Prof. Dr. Muhammet Arslan from the Department of Radiology at Pamukkale University Faculty of Medicine and Prof. Dr. Ahmet Koluman from the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Faculty of Technology. During the research process, contributions were made by Prof. Dr. Semin Melahat Fenkçi, Head of the Endocrinology Department; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serkan Türkuçar from the Department of Pediatrics; Prof. Dr. Nuran Sabir, Head of the Department of Radiology; radiology residents; and master’s and doctoral students from the Department of Biomedical Engineering.

Providing information about the projects, Prof. Dr. Muhammet Arslan stated: “The projects cover the evaluation of disease activity in Graves’ disease, the investigation of pediatric rheumatic diseases using thermal markers, the non-invasive monitoring of vascular diseases, and the use of supportive diagnostic tools in breast cancer screening. The radiation-free and non-invasive thermal camera system, which represents the healthcare technology of the future, is an extremely safe imaging method, particularly for children, pregnant women, and patient groups requiring frequent screening, as it does not involve ionizing radiation. Thermal imaging has the potential to detect physiological and pathological changes in tissues at an early stage by analyzing the heat emitted from the body. In this respect, it may be used in the future as a complementary diagnostic tool for early screening of diseases such as breast cancer or for superficial organ diseases such as those affecting the thyroid. Additionally, due to its portable structure and ability to provide rapid results, the system is intended to be included in platforms for personalized home healthcare monitoring, remote tracking, and preliminary diagnostic support. Pamukkale University continues to integrate technology into healthcare and foster innovative research through interdisciplinary scientific collaborations.”
