“The Meaning of Work” Event Examined the Historical and Social Transformation of Labor

At the event titled “The Meaning of Work,” organized by the Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations at Pamukkale University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences (PAU FEAS), Prof. Dr. Zeki Erdut from Dokuz Eylül University participated as the keynote speaker.

The event, moderated by Prof. Dr. Oğuz Karadeniz, Head of the Department of Labor Economics and Industrial Relations at PAU, addressed the concept of work from historical, social, and individual perspectives. The impacts of digitalization on the labor market and the effects of the platform economy on labor relations were also discussed.

Prof. Dr. Erdut examined the concept of work within a historical framework, analyzing the individual and social meaning of labor in human life. He explained how work has transformed as a social value and addressed the main dynamics shaping today’s labor market. One of the key topics of the presentation was digitalization, evaluated in the context of structural transformations in the labor market. The effects of the platform economy on labor relations, the rise of flexible working models, and new forms of employment were also among the issues discussed. This section, followed with interest by students, also addressed the multi-layered structure of the labor market.

The event concluded with a question-and-answer session in which Prof. Dr. Erdut responded to questions from students.
