Pamukkale University (PAU) Acıpayam Vocational School (Acıpayam MYO) held a conference on October 27 titled “Republic Banknotes.”

The guest speaker, numismatist Harun Ökek—known for his exhibitions The Other Side of Money and Domestic and Foreign Banknotes—was listened to with great interest by academic staff and students.

Ökek, who organizes conferences and exhibitions in various provinces across Türkiye and is the creator of the first and only numismatic exhibition in the country designed specifically for students, began his talk by narrating the history of money. He then provided detailed information about the figures and symbols depicted on the banknotes of the Republic of Türkiye since its establishment.

The speaker also shared examples from the currencies of different countries and presented a short video demonstrating how banknotes are produced. Enriching his presentation with music and photographs, Harun Ökek concluded the event by organizing an online live quiz, inviting the top-performing students to the stage and gifting them collectible coins.

The conference, which featured fascinating insights into the story of money, the meanings and history of the figures and locations depicted on banknotes, and the notable individuals represented on them, concluded with Deputy Director of Acıpayam Vocational School Lecturer Atike Nur Durak presenting a certificate of appreciation to Harun Ökek. Following a group photo session, many students continued to chat with the speaker.
