PAU Hospitals Oncology Nurses Conduct Special Awareness Event for the “Family Year”

24.10.2025
Nurses working in the Oncology Unit of Pamukkale University (PAU) Hospitals organized a meaningful educational and awareness event throughout October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, in line with the declaration of 2025 as the “Family Year.” The initiative aimed to strengthen families—the smallest unit of society—in terms of health and awareness.

Supported by the PAU Hospital Nursing Services Directorate and the Nurse Education Unit, the event highlighted the impact of in-house training on practice and demonstrated the social responsibility aspect of nursing. The volunteer oncology nurses involved in the activity were Ayşegül Çimentepe, Devrim Alagöz, Ayşe Öğmen, Fatmagül Odabaş, Nursel Kayhan, and Ayşe Say. Wearing pink ribbons under the motto “It’s not just a color, it’s an awareness movement!”, the nurses created a chain of awareness that touched both health and family life with knowledge, attention, and dedication.

Throughout the month, the oncology nurses actively contributed not only in treatment processes but also in educational, advisory, and community awareness roles. Acting as “awareness ambassadors,” the nurses visited units across the hospital and conducted short informational sessions for healthcare staff, patients’ relatives, and hospital personnel, emphasizing the importance of early detection in breast cancer.

During the trainings, clear and accessible information was provided on topics such as self-breast examination (SBE) methods, risk factors, early signs, and when to seek medical attention. The aim was to help participants protect their own health while passing the knowledge on to family members and their communities, thereby contributing to the wider dissemination of awareness across society.
