PAU Academic Represents Türkiye and PAU for the Second Time in the International University Sports Arena

At the 32nd Summer FISU World University Games, which opened on July 16, Pamukkale University (PAU) Faculty of Sport Sciences academic member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yeliz İlgar Doğan was appointed as an international judge in Artistic Gymnastics competitions and proudly represented both PAU and Türkiye in the international university sports arena for the second time.

Just as in the 31st UNIVERSIADE Games held in Chengdu, China in 2023, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yeliz İlgar Doğan from PAU’s Faculty of Sport Sciences was once again appointed as an international judge in Artistic Gymnastics competitions by FIG (International Gymnastics Federation) and FISU (International University Sports Federation), successfully representing PAU and Türkiye on the global stage for the second time.

The 32nd edition of the event, hosted by Germany, saw the participation of 144 athletes from Türkiye across 13 disciplines, including shooting, athletics, badminton, gymnastics, fencing, judo, rowing, table tennis, archery, water polo, taekwondo, tennis, and swimming, under the coordination of the Turkish University Sports Federation. Held in cities including Bochum, Duisburg, Essen, Mülheim an der Ruhr, Hagen, and Berlin, this year’s UNIVERSIADE—one of the world’s largest multi-sport events—welcomed around 8,500 student-athletes and officials from over 150 countries competing for medals in 18 sports.

In the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) category, the Turkish athletes placed 7th in the women's and 12th in the men's team and qualification rounds. Turkish athletes also earned the right to compete in apparatus finals. In the finals, Atiye Berra Karademir ranked 6th and Bilge Tarhan ranked 7th in the women's vault event, while Altan Doğan placed 7th in the men's parallel bars.

Representing Türkiye in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics were national athletes Nazlı Savranbaşı, Bengisu Yıldız, Ceren Biner, Bilge Tarhan, and Atiye Berra Karademir, along with their coaches Munise Tuna and Ertan Gümüşlü. In Men’s Artistic Gymnastics, Mert Efe Kılıçer, Mehmet Ayberk Koşak, Alperen Ege Avcı, Altan Doğan, and Hasan Bulut, coached by Nuri Tufan and Reyhan Karanlık, represented Türkiye successfully.
