Organ Donation Stand Opened at PAU Hospitals
An organ donation stand was opened at the outpatient clinic entrance of Pamukkale University Hospitals (PAU Hospitals) in order to draw attention to organ donation and to increase public awareness.
In our country, approximately 40,000 patients are waiting for organ transplantation. Of these patients, 25,725 are registered for kidney transplantation, 2,559 for liver transplantation, 1,552 for heart transplantation, 209 for lung transplantation, 235 for pancreas transplantation, 4 for small intestine transplantation, and 2,648 for cornea transplantation. The insufficiency of organ donation numbers constitutes a significant problem for patients awaiting transplantation.
Various awareness-raising activities are carried out every year by the PAU Hospitals Central Directorate Organ Donation Coordination Unit in order to increase organ donation and to raise public awareness.
Within this scope, an organ donation stand was set up at the entrance of the PAU Hospitals outpatient clinic building. As part of the stand activities, citizens were informed about the importance of organ donation, brochures were distributed, and organ donation applications were accepted.
