First Procedure Performed Using New Equipment at the PAU Hospitals Stroke Center

23.10.2026
Strengthened by the support of philanthropists, Pamukkale University (PAU) Hospitals has taken another important step forward in stroke treatment.

With its strong healthcare infrastructure, experienced medical team, and state-of-the-art equipment, Pamukkale University (PAU) Hospital continues to provide high-quality healthcare services to patients in Denizli and surrounding provinces. The new computed tomography (CT) scanner, provided to the hospital through the valuable contributions of philanthropic businesspeople, was used for the first time at the Stroke Center in the diagnosis and evaluation of a patient who had suffered an acute stroke. The patient's CT and CT angiography examinations were performed using the new device, revealing a blockage in a cerebral blood vessel. Based on the imaging findings, the patient was promptly taken for interventional treatment.

Mechanical thrombectomy, a procedure previously performed successfully at the Pamukkale University Stroke Center, was carried out for the first time using the new angiography device recently added to the center. Thus, the new CT and angiography devices were used together for the first time in the diagnosis and treatment of a patient with acute stroke. Mechanical thrombectomy, which involves removing a blood clot from a cerebral blood vessel with the help of specialized catheters, is of great importance in reducing the risk of permanent disability in eligible patients. Advanced imaging systems play a critical role in achieving successful outcomes by enabling rapid identification of vascular blockages and ensuring that patients receive appropriate treatment.

Time Is of Vital Importance in Stroke Treatment

Interventional Radiology Specialist Prof. Dr. Muhammet Arslan, who performed the procedure, emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and rapid intervention in stroke treatment and made the following statement:

“Time is one of the most important factors in the treatment of acute stroke. Rapid and accurate identification of a blockage in a cerebral blood vessel enables the patient to receive appropriate treatment as quickly as possible. The new computed tomography scanner provided to our hospital with the support of our philanthropists, together with the new angiography system now in service at our Stroke Center, has further strengthened our diagnostic and treatment processes.

At our Stroke Center, we manage the diagnosis and treatment of patients with acute stroke through close collaboration among our Departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Interventional Radiology. Thanks to this multidisciplinary approach, our patients are evaluated promptly, the appropriate treatment method is determined, and the necessary interventional procedures are performed without delay.

We are pleased to have performed the mechanical thrombectomy procedure, which we have been carrying out at our center for a long time, for the first time using our new angiography device. Strengthened by the support of our philanthropists, our hospital will continue to make modern medical technologies available to our patients.

I would like to thank our university and hospital administrations for their efforts in providing these facilities; the Denizli Organized Industrial Zone Industrialists Foundation (DOSAV) for its valuable support in bringing the new computed tomography scanner to our hospital; our other philanthropists; and all our healthcare staff for their dedicated work.”
