In the opening speech, Head of the Department of Pediatric Surgery Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nergül Çördük reminded that April 7 is celebrated as World Pediatric Surgery Day and emphasized the importance of pediatric surgery. She stated that pediatric surgeons are physicians who receive specialized training in the treatment of surgical diseases seen in infants and children from birth to adolescence, adding: “Pediatric surgery covers a very broad field, including common conditions such as inguinal hernia and appendicitis, as well as congenital anomalies, childhood tumors, surgical urological diseases, and trauma. Children are not small adults; they have their own unique medical and surgical needs. In this process, it is crucial to consider not only treatment but also the emotional needs of children and their families. Every child has the right to safe, timely, and appropriate surgical care. I would like to congratulate all pediatric surgeons on their day. I wish all pediatric patients a healthy and happy life.”

Vice Rector Prof. Dr. İbrahim Türkçüer, who spoke afterwards, emphasized the importance of morale and motivation for pediatric patients during the treatment process, stating that such events make the hospital environment warmer and safer for children. He also highlighted the dedication of healthcare workers and noted that social activities for children will continue.
