The “Career Talks” event organized by Pamukkale University (PAU) Communication and Interaction Society was held on Thursday at 14:00 in the Hierapolis Hall. Experienced journalist Özkan Tokmak, President of the Denizli Journalists Association, Hasan Balkanay, founder of “Daire 215 Agency” and an expert in advertising and brand management, and Hasan Çerkesli, President of WCB&TOUCH MEDIA and one of the entrepreneurs of the Alibaba platform, were invited as speakers.

In the event, which was attended by students from the Communication and Interaction, Fighting Disinformation, İnci Youth, Social Interaction, and Artificial Intelligence and Design societies, Denizli Journalists Association President Özkan Tokmak gave the first speech. Starting his talk by emphasizing that student societies are very important during academic life, Tokmak shared his journalism experiences with the students. Stating that he has 26 years of professional experience, Özkan Tokmak noted that Denizli is very strong in the context of local media and that there are around 40 news websites. Emphasizing the importance of loving the profession, Özkan Tokmak stated that many things can be turned into news in terms of news production, while also mentioning the difficulties of reporting during disasters such as earthquakes. In addition, Özkan Tokmak underlined that to practice journalism, one must have a personality that loves to acquire knowledge and is open to communication.

The second guest of the event was Hasan Balkanay. Balkanay began his speech by stating that his entrepreneurial journey comes from a family engaged in trade. Balkanay expressed the secret of success in the digital world as follows: “If you truly believe in what you do and put in effort, those doors will somehow open for you. I was never afraid of making mistakes. I always saw my mistakes as stepping stones. The moment you say ‘I have made it’ is actually the moment you stop.” Drawing attention to the importance of being curious, having a strong network, investing in digitalization, and being visible for success, Balkanay stated that those who cannot adapt to change in the digital world will disappear.

The third guest of the event, Hasan Çerkesli, emphasized the importance of finding the “purple cow” in entrepreneurship and selling what no one else is selling. Advising those who want to become entrepreneurs, Çerkesli said, “An idea is not everything. What matters is being able to make that idea successful with the available resources. Every platform has its own language. ‘Instagram language’, ‘Trendyol language’, ‘Google language’… If you learn these languages correctly, you have no chance of failing. We have now moved away from e-commerce and are focusing more on artificial intelligence and project-based work. Because e-commerce has now dropped to middle school level; competition has increased significantly.” The event ended after the photo session.
