As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, observed every year between October 1–31 by the World Health Organization, Denizli Vocational School of Health Services (DSHMYO) organized an event titled “Breast Cancer Is Not Your Destiny.”

The event was organized by faculty members of the Anesthesia Program, Lect. Dr. Hilal Parlak Sert, Lect. Dr. Hatice Gencer Alsancak, and Lect. Dr. Tuğçe Yeşilyaprak Karaca. Participating students were encouraged to wear pink and write awareness messages on pink balloons. These balloons were later gifted to students from other departments to spread awareness more broadly.

During the program, topics such as breast cancer prevalence, risk factors, early diagnosis, and current treatment approaches were discussed in light of scientific data. Prof. Dr. Gamze Gököz Doğu emphasized the life-saving role of early diagnosis and noted that participation in screening programs significantly reduces breast cancer–related mortality.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sevda Yılmaz demonstrated breast self-examination techniques to students and academic staff, highlighting the importance of regular mammography screenings and lifestyle changes for prevention.

Attracting great interest from participants, the event offered students and academic staff the opportunity to hear the latest scientific insights directly from field experts. It contributed both to the dissemination of scientific knowledge and to the strengthening of social awareness.
