A music performance themed “Architecture and Jazz: Space, Rhythm and Freedom,” organized for students of Pamukkale University (PAU) Faculty of Architecture and Design, was held on April 14 at Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Yılmaz Congress and Culture Center.

The event began with an opening speech by Vice Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Design, Dr. Lecturer Saadet Mutlu Kaytan. In the opening speech, it was emphasized that architecture and design education develop through interaction with different disciplines, and that jazz music contributes to this process through improvisation, rhythm, and expressive power.

Within the scope of the program, the relationship between architecture, design, and jazz music was addressed through common concepts such as rhythm, space, improvisation, and layered thinking. It was stated that architecture constructs space while jazz constructs time, and that both fields produce experience by combining technical knowledge with artistic intuition. It was also noted that spatial void and spatial flow in architecture have a similar structure to silence and rhythmic organization in jazz music.

Following the presentation, jazz performances were delivered by Banu Küçük Gülhan and Sonat Kacar, presenting various examples of jazz music to the participants. The performance was followed with great interest by the attendees.

At the end of the event, certificates of appreciation were presented to the artists by Acting Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Design, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Tamer Ayvaz, for their contributions.

The event, organized by the Faculty of Architecture and Design, contributed to students gaining an interdisciplinary perspective and provided an opportunity to experience the relationships between architecture, design, and jazz music.
