Academics, Administrative Staff, and Students Honored at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

The 2025 Activities Awards Ceremony, organized by the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS) at Pamukkale University (PAU) to recognize the achievements, services, and contributions of the faculty’s academic staff, administrative personnel, and students, was held.

Through the award ceremony organized by the faculty, academics, administrative staff, students, and external stakeholders who contributed to the faculty were honored for their achievements in a wide range of areas, including scientific activities, projects, educational studies, and community service initiatives.

The ceremony, held for the second time this year, was attended by PAU Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmud Güngör, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ersan Öz, Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof. Dr. Emin Erdem, faculty members, administrative personnel, students, and external stakeholders. It began with opening speeches by Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Bilal Söğüt and Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ersan Öz. In their speeches, they emphasized the decisive role of academic productivity, scientific research, and community-oriented studies in university culture, congratulating the academic and administrative staff and students who received awards and expressing their wishes for their continued success.

External stakeholders who contributed to the faculty’s educational, scientific, and social activities also attended the ceremony. Among them were Denizli Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism Branch Manager Hüseyin Oturaklı, Denizli Governorship EU Projects Coordinator Redife Aslıhan Uçar, Denizli Governorship EU and Foreign Relations Office Project Specialist Ramazan Aydoğmuş, Denizli Museum Director Hulusi Ünsal, Denizli Youth Center Director Ömer Yasin Kocalar, and İstek Schools Founder Nihan Özel. Protocol members took part in presenting awards and recognizing academic and social contributions.

The ceremony first featured the presentation of the “Academic Incentive Achievement Award” under the Academic Achievement Awards category. Prof. Dr. Bilal Söğüt and Prof. Dr. Celal Şimşek from the Department of Archaeology, along with Prof. Dr. Mustafa Beyazıt from the Department of Art History, were deemed worthy of the award for their outstanding academic incentive scores. Under the Scientific Activity Awards category, Prof. Dr. Nergis Biray from the Department of Contemporary Turkish Dialects and Literatures, Prof. Dr. Güney Çeğin from the Department of Sociology, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Osman Cengiz from the Department of History were honored. The Successful Young Academic Award was presented to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Servet Kaçar Başaran and Assistant Professor Dr. Zeynep Erdoğan Yıldırım from the Department of Psychology, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alper Bilgehan Yardımcı from the Department of Philosophy.

Within the scope of the Academic Achievement Awards, Prof. Dr. Güney Çeğin from the Department of Sociology received the Copyrighted Work Award for his published works Political Fragments and Micro-Fascism. Prof. Dr. Yasemin Avcı from the Department of History was awarded the Project Award for her TÜBİTAK ARDEB 1001-supported project titled Imperial Policies in Jerusalem: Public Space and Social Identity (1871–1948). Under the Contribution to Education and Teaching Activities Award category, Prof. Dr. Durmuş Akalın, Assistant Professor Dr. Çelik Ekmekçi, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Salih Mehmet Arçın were honored. The Community Contribution Award was presented to Prof. Dr. Türkan Erdoğan, Prof. Dr. Celal Şimşek, Prof. Dr. Bilal Söğüt, and administrative staff member Ahmet Koç. The Service to Denizli Award was given to Prof. Dr. Turgut Tok, Prof. Dr. Ercan Haytoğlu, and Prof. Dr. Yusuf Kılıç.

The Contribution to Institutional Operations and Activities Award was presented to Prof. Dr. Şeyda Sivrioğlu on behalf of the Department of English Language and Literature for the regularly organized PACES (Pamukkale Conference of English Studies) events. The Contribution to Institutional Recognition Award was presented to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Gültekin, whose short film Mutat achieved national and international success. Under the Student Contribution and Activities Award category, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İnci Türkoğlu, advisor to the Cultural Heritage Conservation and Restoration Society, together with the society president, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Merve Çetin, advisor to the Between Classes Society, together with the society president, were deemed worthy of awards.

At the end of the ceremony, in recognition of the successfully completed FEDEK accreditation process, the Contribution to Institutional Recognition Award was presented by Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmud Güngör to Prof. Dr. Celal Şimşek on behalf of the Department of Archaeology and to Prof. Dr. Şeyda Sivrioğlu on behalf of the Department of English Language and Literature.

The ceremony concluded with a cocktail reception held in the foyer area.
