'Bird Names in Siberian Turkic Dialects' Discussed at the Faculty of Science

The series of events organized by Pamukkale University (PAU) Faculty of Science within the scope of the 100th Anniversary of our Republic Activities ended with the conference titled 'Bird Names in Siberian Turkish Dialects' held by Assoc. Prof. Salih Mehmet Arçın, from Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Turkish Language and Literature.

Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof. Dr. Yakup Kaska, Head of the Department of Biology Prof. Dr. Olcay Düşen, academicians and students attended the event organized in cooperation with the Dean of the Faculty of Science and the Department of Biology.

After the moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem, the opening speech of the program was made by Prof. Dr. Olcay Düşen, Head of the Department of Biology. Prof. Dr. Düşen stated that the second of the Biology Department events series was held as of the end of the year and thanked those who contributed. Afterwards, PAU Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Turkish Language and Literature Lecturer Assoc. Prof. Salih Mehmet Arçın started his lecture and firstly talked about the geography of Siberia and its location. Sharing visuals of various historical finds; Arçın presented examples of stamps related to Siberian culture.

Starting the second part of his lecture with an explanation of the concept of "naming", Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arçın talked about the writing process and methodology of the book that gave its name to the conference. The lecturer concluded his lecture with a short evaluation of bird names, their origins and meanings in Siberian Dialects accompanied by bird pictures.
