PAU Exemplary Project Strengthening Family Bonds
The “Grandmother and Grandfather School,” implemented as a first in Denizli by the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) of Pamukkale University (PAU), has started its new term trainings.
Aiming to increase family solidarity and strengthen intergenerational bonds, the project brings grandparents together with experts on modern grandchild care and intergenerational communication.
Pamukkale University (PAU) Faculty of Health Sciences continues to carry out a meaningful project supporting the family structure within the scope of its social contribution vision. The Grandmother-Grandfather School, which is a branch of the “pre-birth preparation” concept widely practiced abroad and designed for grandparents, has opened its doors for the first time in Denizli under PAU.
Full Academic Support
The project is conducted by Faculty of Health Sciences faculty members Prof. Dr. Pınar Serçekuş Ak and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elif Uludağ. The first group trainings started in July 2024, and due to high interest, the program continues periodically with new groups.
An Educational and Social Experience
The trainings aim to prepare grandparents for their new roles with their grandchildren, and include both theoretical knowledge and hands-on workshops. The main topics covered in the training program are as follows: Current Approaches in Grandchild Care: Correcting commonly known misconceptions in grandchild care with scientific data, Intergenerational Communication: Communication methods that prevent family conflicts and increase harmony, Role Preparation: Psychological and practical preparation for grandparent roles, Social Activities: Fun workshops such as making bracelets for grandchildren to ensure participants have an enjoyable time.
Trainings Completely Free of Charge
The trainings, organized in interactive groups of approximately 6–10 people, are scheduled according to participants’ requests in terms of day and time. This training program carried out within the Faculty of Health Sciences of PAU is offered free of charge to all grandparents.
