Midday Seminars Discussed Generative Artificial Intelligence in Academia
Within the scope of Pamukkale University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences (FEAS) “Midday Seminars,” a session titled “Generative Artificial Intelligence in Academia: Ethics, Responsibility and Transformation” was held. The event took place at the FEAS B Block Conference Hall with the participation of academics, research assistants and students, focusing on the impacts, use cases and ethical dimensions of generative AI in academic production processes.
The seminar, held on 07.05.2026, addressed how generative artificial intelligence has become a transformative tool in academic work. Speakers Prof. Dr. Selçuk Burak Haşıloğlu, Dr. Öğr. Üyesi M. Ulaş Koyuncuoğlu, and Research Assistants Koray Günel, Aylin Sabancı Bayramoğlu and Berker Dal highlighted its contributions to literature review, data organization, translation, text development and research acceleration, supported by practical examples.
It was emphasized that while AI provides significant support in academic workflows, human oversight and researcher expertise must remain central. Participants underlined that AI should be regarded not as an “author” but as a supportive tool, noting that outputs may sometimes be inaccurate or misleading and therefore must be verified. The responsibility of the researcher in hypothesis development, interpretation and scientific evaluation processes was stressed as indispensable.
In the final part of the seminar, ethical considerations were discussed in detail. Transparency, honesty, fairness and confidentiality were highlighted as key principles, and it was stated that the use of AI must be clearly declared to ensure academic integrity. The seminar concluded after a Q&A session.
