Excitement of White Coat Ceremony at the Faculty of Science
The “White Coat Wearing Ceremony” organized for first-year students of the Biology and Chemistry Departments at Pamukkale University (PAU) Faculty of Science was held at the Prof. Dr. İsmail Çetişli Conference Hall.
The ceremony, which began with a moment of silence and the National Anthem, was attended by Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof. Dr. Emin Erdem, vice deans, department heads, academics, students, and families.
In the opening speech of the ceremony, Head of the Biology Department Prof. Dr. Yeşim Kara stated that the white coat is not only a piece of clothing but a symbol of progress in the light of science, discipline, and ethical values. Defining biology as a critical field dedicated to understanding life and benefiting humanity, Kara expressed her belief that students will be trained as questioning and productive individuals on this journey.
Head of the Chemistry Department Prof. Dr. Emin Karapınar referred to the department’s 32-year established history and emphasized the importance of this ceremony held for the first time. Karapınar stated that the white coat is a symbol of purity, reliability, and scientific integrity, and wished that it would always serve as a source of motivation encouraging students to ask the question “why”.
Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof. Dr. Emin Erdem, in his speech, stated that the young people entrusted by parents will be prepared for the future with a strong academic staff with 30 years of experience. Emphasizing the importance of the ethical use of knowledge, Erdem stated that science should be used not for destruction but for serving humanity and prosperity. He concluded his speech by advising students to adopt the principle of making others happy.
Following the speeches, the program continued with Chemistry Department students being invited to the stage to wear their white coats. Students were dressed in their white coats by their academics and were presented with certificates of achievement. Afterwards, Biology Department students also received their white coats from their lecturers and were awarded their certificates in the same manner.
The ceremony, which was attended with great interest by students’ families and relatives, ended after a group photo session and refreshments.
