Associate Professor Mustafa Gültekin’s Short Film Wins Awards at Numerous International Festivals

12.02.2026
Associate Professor Dr. Mustafa Gültekin, a faculty member of the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of Pamukkale University (PAU), became a source of pride for PAU by achieving significant success at numerous national and international film festivals in a short period of time with his short film Mutat, which he wrote and directed in 2025.

Filmed in Denizli city center, the rural areas of Acıpayam, and the Nazilli district of Aydın, the film powerfully portrays—through the one-day life struggle of a factory worker named Dilan—the unpaid domestic and care labor that women in Türkiye are forced to undertake while being employed under precarious conditions. Another striking feature of the film is that the majority of the cast and technical crew consists of Pamukkale University students.

Completed through instructor–student solidarity, the short film has also drawn attention with a comprehensive film review recently published on the blog of İFSAK (Istanbul Photography and Cinema Amateurs Association). The awards and selections received by Mutat at film festivals held across different regions of the world are as follows:

  • Anatolian Film Awards (Türkiye): Best Turkish Director Award
  • Crown Point International Film Festival (USA): First Prize in Cinematography
  • Reale Film Festival (Italy): Honorable Mention
  • The Monthly Film Festival (England/Scotland): Award Nomination
  • World Indie Film Awards: Quarter-Finalist
  • Zambia Film Festival (Zambia): Official Selection
  • Sweden Film Festival (Sweden): Finalist
  • Stockholm Film Festival (Sweden): Finalist

With these international achievements, Associate Professor Dr. Mustafa Gültekin has once again demonstrated the strong connections between the craft of sociology and the art of cinema, as well as the possibilities of interdisciplinary work.
